#27. First we take York

It’s been a while since I’ve been to York. I study in Lancaster and York isn’t that far… I’m ashamed to say but I liked York. I know there was the famous War of the Roses between the House of Lancaster and the House of York in the medieval era and that I should support Lancaster since the last year I’m supposed to be a Lancastrian but… I loved it!f4.0 | 1/100Original SizeFeatured Song: Otis Redding | (Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay

#26. A Touch of Spice [Amalia©]

I remember this quote from a movie called “A Touch of Spice“. It was “Appetizers are similar to stories which tell of far away journey’s flavours and aromas seduce your senses and prepare you for an adventurous journey. That’s why the Greek word for return (επιστροφή) conceals within it the word turn (στροφή), which conceals within it the word food (τροφή).

I really liked that…

#25. The Fisherman of Prague

While coming back to UK I had a six hours transit in Prague. “What a wonderful opportunity to walk on the cobblestones of this famous city!”, I thought. Famous for its Old Town Square with the astronomical clock, for Malá Strana, for Charles Bridge, for its castle, for Czech beers and of course last but not least… the Czech women! The taxi dropped me off at the city center. It was very early in the morning, around 7 o’ clock. Shops were closed still and cleaning ladies were preparing the cafés…

Since I couldn’t have a beer or coffee I decided to head towards Charles bridge and then enjoy my espresso. On my way there I could see Prague waking up. Half an hour ago the city streets were empty and quite but now… Oh my God! It was as if all people suddenly exit their houses and were rushing to go to work by bike, tram, bus, metro, car anything! It was madness but in a very exciting way! It made you want to go with the flow… And that’s what I did. I followed couple of tourists that were heading to Charles bridge that crosses Vltava river. And there I saw him. Against all city’s rush, that fisherman in his small boat peaceful and patient waiting for the fish to take the bait…

Of course on my way there I took many photos but this one I like. The fisherman of Prague…

Groove Jet / cd|17

Since I was young I used to listen to rock music. Yes I was listening to other genres as well but rock was always my thing. Classic, hard, metal, alternative, post, rock ‘n’ roll, surf, acoustic, you name it. Growing in Greece however was inevitable for me not to club at nights. Dancing with friends and strangers is all you do in the summer in Greece. But in order to dance in a club you need dance music. Music with a beat…

A typical night starts at the bar for a beer or a cocktail and continues to the after hours clubs. People are dressed up enjoying the groove, slow moving in the beginning and then dancing their hearts out on the dance floor. When I really started to hang out to bars and clubs it was something more than ten years ago. First in high school and then at the university. Those ten plus years I grooved and danced with a lot of songs. Here is a compilation of those I liked best… A tribute to those summer nights out dancing till dawn, occasionally drunk.

01. Spiller feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor | Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)
02. Billie Ray Martin | Your Loving Arms
03. Artful Dodger & Romina Johnson | Movin’ Too Fast
04. Jennifer Paige | Crush
05. Roger Sanchez | Another Chance
06. Sonique | It Feels So Good
07. Everything But The Girl | Missing
08. Shapeshifters | Lolas Theme
09. Moloko feat. Roisin Murphy | Sing It Back
10. Daft Punk | One More Time
11. Sash! feat. Tina Cousins | Mysterious Times
12. No Mercy | Where Do You Go
13. Iio | Rapture
14. Chicane feat. Bryan Adams | Don’t Give Up
15. Wamdue Project | King of My Castle
16. Room 5 feat. Oliver Cheatham | Make Luv
17. ATB | 9pm Till I Come
18. Adamski | Killer (2000 mix by ATB)
19. Enrique Iglesias feat. Kelis | Not In Love
20. 3-11 Porter | Surround Me with Your Love (Mental Overdrive Remix)

#24. Magic Carpet Ride

I know that it’s not a carpet, I know it doesn’t fly, I know it’s an old abandoned boat but does it really matter? There are some things that are charming even out of their natural environment, even if the years are visible on them, even they are of no use to anybody anymore and nobody cares for them. Like this small boat that probably never left away from its island. Probably built on the island, cruised around it and as it seems it will rot on it but still preserves its pride. That’s what it’s all about.

There are some great voices from the past that accompany us till today. Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington are some of the greatest female voices ever. Voices that you hear once and either you love instantly or never really appreciate for the rest of your life. I’ve heard this compilation many times before I post it. Each time I heard it, the same question was kept bothering me: “Are there any new female artists that can get any close to those legends nowadays?” I’m sorry but you’ll have to wait a couple of days for the answer… Be patient.

Meanwhile enjoy this one…

01. Nina Simone | Feeling Good
02. Billie Holiday | Summertime
03. Edith Piaf | La Vie En Rose
04. Shirley Bassey | Diamonds Are Forever

#22. Broken bridge

A broken bridge means two things. Either that nobody needs it anymore or that somebody didn’t want it there. Either way it inspires a melancholy.
